About The Hamner
Vision
With a goal of creating a world-class, preeminent biomedical sciences research and education institute, Dr. Charles Hamner and Dr. William Greenlee foresaw that a new approach and a new type of organization was required -one that was open, collaborative and cross-disciplinary. The Hamner Institutes for Health Sciences is a new entity that exists outside the boundaries of the traditional university, yet facilitates joint appointments with Duke, UNC-Chapel Hill, and North Carolina public universities. Through collaborative initiatives that strengthen the outcomes of the research investment, The Hamner offers all of the intellectual, collegial, and scientific benefits of a leading research university.
The mission of The Hamner is to promote the advancement and dissemination of biomedical sciences knowledge among academia, the private sector and government, with the ultimate goal of preventing or curing disease.
The Hamner Institutes for Health Sciences aspires to be the preeminent center in the world for collaborative, cross-disciplinary education, and translational research and development in the biomedical sciences.
