Technology Transfer
Intellectual Property Committee
The Intellectual Property Committee (IPC) for The Hamner Institutes for Health Sciences was established on October 15, 2001. The mission of the IPC is to maximize patent protection for technology and facilitate the transfer of such technology to the private sector and to individual users. By promptly negotiating patenting and licensing agreements, the IPC facilitates scientific research at The Hamner and ensures compliance with mandates of the Bayh-Dole Act of 1980.
The IPC is responsible for managing intellectual property developed at The Hamner. The IPC works with staff to begin the patenting process for research discoveries, works with outside patent attorneys to obtain patents, and establishes licensing programs to secure income for The Hamner and the inventors. Once licenses are established, the IPC is responsible for administering the agreements to ensure that contractual obligations are met. The IPC collects licensing revenue and reimbursable expenses, monitors licensees' progress with respect to development of licensed technology, and distributes licensing income to inventors and their laboratories.
